All Things Jeep

I'm in for a few hours.
PFMG
planning on it as of now
Eric
Thinking about it. 1.5 hour drive from home. Not sure when the wife is returning from Mexico.

Looks like fun, though.

Caravanning a few "antiques" from Hudson / Nashua and taking secondary roads.. Leaving my house in Hudson at 9:00AM. Anyone else interested? Paul?

Rick L
Is there room for trailer and tow rig parking there?

I'm up for meeting somewhere and driving in, back roads from my house show a little less than an hour.

Is NEWJO taking on a booth or anything like that?

Exit 33 off of Rt 3 looks like a pretty straigt shot, about 40 minutes from there

If I can make it, I'll just wind up trailering.
Doug

If we go it will be in Kellys Rubi. The interior is out of the 8 as I was supposed to have the tub sprayed with Linex. Now they tell me next Wednesday. I really don't want to put everything back in just to remove it all again.
Rick L
Which Linex, the one in Salem, MA?
Doug

No...it's in NH. I'm going through a friend at one of the Dealers I work with.

I have a coupon for the one in Salem. But that won't do you any good.

GTD is rain or shine.
Eric
I thought I was going to be able to go, but it doesn't look good.
certifiablejeep
It looks like it will start raining arond midnight and by mid day to late afternoon T-Showers.
Now I have no problem driving an hour plus in the rain to then stand in the rain... but does it really need to thunder and lighting as well to then drive back an hour in the rain?

Too bad it wasn't today... I am taking the Jeep to work and it looks really really nice out there.

cb
wetskier2000
Yeah, I had been holding out hope all week that the TStorms might get moved to another day, but it ain't looking that way.... Ray and I talked last night and barring some instant dry out are gonna bag as well.
certifiablejeep
I will make the call in the morning, but it doesn't look good.
Krawler
If it's raining I'm also gonna bag out. Anyone gets bored and wants to work on the buys YJ. I'll be in the shop all day long. I have a anti-wrap bar to wld up and maybe a tailgate to paint and a few oither things.

I need to open the rear diff on the Dodge. I suspect I'm going to be unhappy with what falls out. Was planning on doing that in the driveway, but if it's raining.... smile.gif

I might still go without jeep if its raining, just to check it out, its less than 30 minutes from the house.

There is a course they set up and it should be really good wheeling or spectating...

Are you going anyway? I don't want to complicate things, there's no hurry to get it in.

So, you guys that are going... Are you just ignoring the "TOPLESS" part or taking a highway shower?

I'm leaving Andover at 9am a friend is joining me in Lowell at 9:30, we should be their in Lancaster just after 10am.
I will have an empty seat if someone would like to join us.
TX Longhorn
Watching 10opm news cast, and all are saying that 2mrws gonna be a wet one. Rain starting in the am with a slight break around noon, only to start back up. Still holdin out for the sun gods to appear, but short of a major shift in weather, Im officially out.
WILLYJEEPERS
I'm still going and the wife decided to join me.
And as far as I know my buddy Nick is still planning on the ride, he dosn't get out much in his jeep and is looking forward to going.
If it's a real wash in Lancaster I plan on taking a nice slow back road ride through southern NH. and make a day of it.

Never mind. Nothing to see here. I don't have a trac-lok thing. I have the heavy duty 10.5 axle with the trac-rite. Fluid change and it seems better. I did add friction modifier - apparently, that was a mistake. Looking now to see if it will do harm or not. Also learned that if you fill the diff to the hole, it's too full. Fawkin Dodge.

TRAC-RITE DIFFERENTIAL.....

The following is a S.T.A.R. Center Case Report:
Report created Jan 6 2004
Updated Jan 13 2004

Customer says his trac-rite rear diff is not working?
GCK1: 01/06/2004
Recommendation/Solution
Review AAM Trac-rite diff characteristics. Rear diff is working or truck wouldn't move. It will overrun like standard diff if operating on extreme differernces in surfaces. (Ice under one rear tire with other tire on dry pavement.) No further action.
:GCKI:01/06/2004
The 2003 heavey-duty Ram uses and American Axle helical differential or Trac-Rite. The Trac_Rite differential is different then Trac-Lok in that it uses helical gears (Trac-Lok uses clutches) to transfer power to the opposite wheel when slippage occurs. The transfer of power from wheel to wheel is torque sensitive and must have both wheels spinning (not stationary) to function. It is possible for the Trac-Rite differential to not send power to a wheel if is not spinning. Example: Accelerating from as stop and one wheel is on ice and the other on dry pavement. If accelerating to fast, the wheel on the ice may spin and never send power to the whell on the pavement side. A slower start may be necessary to start the vehicles momentum.
A written test procedure for Trac-Rite is not listed in the repair manual and the following points should be noted:
Testing the Trac-Rite differential while the vehicle is lifted and turning one wheel by hand, the opposite wheel will turn in the opposite direction. This is normal.
If the Trac-Rite assembly has and internal failure it will lock axles 100% side to side.
To test the Trac-Rite process, raise vehicle on appropriate lift, place into gear and accelerate quickly (hard launch). A second technician will witness both wheels turning at the same speed at the start of the acceleration.
Another test for Trac-Rite is to slowly drive vehicle in an open area and completely turn wheels to one direction and accelerate hard.. The vehicle will experience tire hop or shudder. This is normal. Trac-Rite differentials do not require friction modifier and should be used only with SAE75W-90 GL-5 synthetic fluid PN 05102232AA.
The Trac-Rite differential found in the American Axles may look like the helical gears have ground away the case. Six small half circles are noticable on the side of the differential opposite of the ring gear. These openings are desinged for oil flow and are not the result of the helical gears grinding through the differential. Please do not replace the differential case or any other part of the axle due to these openings.
Note: All American Axles require Mopar lube part# 05102232AA synthetic and does not use a friction modifier.

i went by without the JEEP, they still had an okay turnout from what i saw. The 4wd course they set up was pretty cool, would have been fun to run it. There was a lot of chrome on the jeeps there, and sadly no willys and only one older 5.

It was worth the trip, saw some old friends, won a couple of small raffles and had some burgers and ice cream, which was from Kimball farm, it appears they bought the farm or the farm stand, either way its now called Kimballs farm and they are building a outdoor restaurant like they have in westord

It looked like two to three hundred jeeps showed up some were topless, and it rained and rained some times so hard it was like standing under a waterfall. Quite a few jeeps were lined up to attemped the mud trail out back. And I saw Scott a few times once he was under his jeep checking his trans/transfer fluid levels. After awhile we got tired of standing around under the tarps so we headed out on that run I spoke of earlier. Good day in all it was good to get out.

Your fine with the friction modifier. It doesn't require it but it won't hurt it if it's used. A lot of diff fluids have it, as we saw yesterday, pre-added to the fluid already. If you want to use those fluids you'd get it regardless, correct?

I'm waiting to hear the "official" numbers but I was also very surprised with the turn out....

I did loose my temper at the end of the day when some young punk....kid was flying through a mud puddle and I went over and told him to slow down. The kid then rooster tailed me.....thats when I was seeing red....I think I scared the punk a bit laugh.gif
