4wheeln ZJ
I spent Saturday helping Bob take a lift out of his rot box blue ZJ and put in his rust free 98 ZJ that we put a motor last month. Everything went pretty easy until we took it for a test drive. Scary death wobble at about 40 mph. Spent the rest of the day replacing ball joints and upper control arm bushing and now it rides as nice as it looks.
His new ZJ is a 98 4.0 auto. with quadra-trac. What is quadra-trac? I'm know it come with the 249 transfer case that does lock in 4-lo. My 1993 249 case did not. Whats up with the diffs. are they open, posi or what?

The axle diffs are most likely going to be open. The NP249 may 'lock' in 4wd but technically it still isn't 'locked' because that t-case uses a clutch and still somewhat acts as a open diff to split power F to R. When push comes to shove you are still going to lose power to the wheels due to that clutch mechanism. I still have that beautiful 98 ZJ for sale for $800 that has the much better suited NP231 for your application... pokewithstick.gif

I can bring home another one. We already have 3 parts ZJs. One has a 231, one has a 242 and the other has a 249.
