I started poking at the frame on the 206K TJ last night and while it appears to have some life left, I was surprised at the amount of sand INSIDE the frame. I was feeling around thru the holes toward the front of the rear wheel arch. Getting it out... Vacuum?

I had a ton of rust and sand in my frame.
I drove it up a steep banking and put a water hose in the high side and flushed it out the other end, that worked verry well.

Told ya...
Mine is a mess as well. I put the hose to it the other night. I couldn't believe the amount of crap that oozed out. Going to borrow the neighbor's power washer and really do it up this weekend.

Is the front of the frame open? I think the rear is kind of closed off.

I believe I took the front bumper off and back up a steep incline.
It's a pain getting crap around that tube in the front that goes from one side to the other, get yourself a close hanger wire so you can poke at the build up that collects in globs.
A lot of stuff comes out the holes in the side of the frame.
Eventually it will all come out

Psst.... Older CJ frames don't have *THAT* problem!
I have a CJ7 ('76) frame that is open channel in the rear. If anyone is interested.

To start with, I vacuumed out the rust and got plenty of it. I will probably rinse also as you guys have suggested. I'd like to find a solution other than the aforementioned oiling. I'm sure oiling works well, but I'd prefer not to have the drippings everywhere.
Any other ideas? Snakeoil rustproofing shops, maybe?

I'm going to lube mine up. I figure it'll only drip for so long...

That's why you use a heavy oil like bar & chain or 90w little to no drip. The sprayer makes kinda of a mist its not as dirty as it sounds.

Been looking at options for this... Robbins carries something called Rust Free (I think), it's a parafin based product intended for inner frames. You use a 3 foot flexible plastic rod to spray the stuff and a gun called a Shutze. (I thought the guy was saying shitz!).
I asked Robbins for a shop that might do this as I was concerned about making a real mess of my garage. I talked to the shop this AM. He said he'd look into it but thought the gun and rod would be throw away and didn't already have them. If that's the case I expect I'd pay the 100 bucks for the gun, rod and product and him on top of that.
I was thinking that a Inner Frame coating tech day might be a better, more cost effective solution. I think the break down was rod 48, gun 30, product 30. We could each buy product and split the cost of the gun and rod.
Any one interested?

Am I really the only one interested in spending 50+ bucks to save a frame from certain demise?

I have one of those guns. It's just an undercoating gun. I have all of our undercoating tools from when I used to undercoat cars..

Rick;
I would like to do this but it depends on when you plan on getting it done, my weekends are filling up.
Maybe a day during any week.

I see I didn't update this thread...
I did this to the TJ and I think it worked pretty well.. The product is called Rustfree and it's not parafin based, but goes on like a waxy substance. It's petroleum based and seems to dry pretty quickly. My only nit on the product was the hose needed to be a little longer. It feeds from the bottle to the "wand" and the hose wasn't long enough to put the bottle down or even hold it with my arm down. I had to hold it up near the wand.
The overspray was very minimal. I had the truck on the lift. The floor was covered with plastic which was fortunate when I dropped the bottle because of the aforementioned "holding it near the wand".
