Full Version: Trail Run 2-12-06
NEWJO > Public Access > Mainers corner
zfinger
Sunday the 12th I'm going wheelin and I'm trying to get a few people together. One trail is in the Raymond/Poland area and the other is in Minot. The first one is stock Jeepable and pretty fun. Legal to as far as I know. The second one I have never been on but I've heard its pretty hard and I'm likely to get stuck, so we may not venture to far on that one. I have 5 or so friends with stock Cherokees so I'll try and rally the troops for this run. You guys can send me a PM or call my cell 754-2611 Zack

So far its:
Me- 97' Cherokee 2" lift 30's
Jared- 88' Range Rover 4" lift

I'd love to come on this, but (and no offence meant at all) I have an issue with questionable legality of trails. If it was a sure deal I'd be all over it,

Have a good time.

Nick

I'm gonna say its legal although I dont have it in writing. First off becasue its been open for 30 years no questions asked, second the front side is an access road to the tower on top, and finally, the back side where the good trail is, is owned by my friends boss, who said he dosnt give a poop.

And the other trail has about 8 entrances, no of which are blocked off. And the property is owned by Heamons Motocross as far as I know, and they dont care either. Thats another very well used and long time trail.

So the legality dosent bother me one bit. Its not like the trailhead is in someones yard. So come on, buck up, stop making excuses and LETS GO!!!

If you can assume the resonsibility of getting permission I will come

I have a copy of the landowners permission form that would be good to get signed just to keep everything on the up and up. It also helps protect the landowner just in case something goes bad. Shoot me your email and I will send it to you. Or get me the contact info in a PM and I will approach them to get is signed.

Unfortunately I am out, part of my "other" volunteer work involves 4H Baby Beef Steers and we are going to be putting on about 350 miles that day ear tagging steers for Fryeburg Fair.

x2 maybe
SKEETER
For the record this would NOT be an organized NEWJO run.
zfinger
Yeah email me the form, but I dont have a property map of the mountain or know exactly how its divided up. The owner of Pa's Trading Post (Paul Cote) told my friend Russ whose worked for him for 4 years now that he owns some of it and dosent mind if we use it. Now would he be willing to sign paperwork to that, I have no idea. I guess I need to see what info is on the form, and ask Russ for more details on the property lines.

I understand the legal issues involved here, but these trails are so often used and have been open for so long that getting paperwork involved just dosent seem like it applies here (even though it "legally" does). I guess I see it like asking the tollbooth person to sign off on me to get on the pike.

And this is not an organized run, I'm just going up with a few friends, and put out the offer if anyone wants to tag along. I'm always up for meeting new people.

Here's a pic from the top, look familiar to anyone?

And a video some friends and I made up there this fall

I would be interested, what time do you think you will be going, I am going to be in Raymond until about 1:00 for a camping trip, let me know what time you are planning on going, and where the trail head is in relation to Camp Hinds?
Thanks, hope to see you on the trail,

Zfinger, the acess road that your talking about is off limits to anyone but the matenace crew (long story but I know), the 3rd trail is a town road for most of it and it goes all the way over. I have the tax maps and owners names, when I have time I'll get in touch with the owners.

The one owned by the MX track, I belive to be open, but every time I stop in no one is home. I'm waiting till spring when they start racing again to stop by.

Just remember that just because it not posted, does not meen its legal. But the areas that your talking about, I think youll be safe.

Skeeter If you could email me that form, it would be great. bowhunter595@aol.com

Upper Range Pond if I'm not totally turned around. Almost 100% on that though. And around 12 or 1 is when I was thinking of leaving, but nothings set in stone. Pretty much the whole day is open to me.
90Amigo
I have something i have to be at by 2, so unless its in the morning, i'm out.

I'm hearing now that there is going to be a big storm Satuday night into Sunday. So this may end up being put off a while.

Its actually very different, no matter how much use a trail gets, it doesn't make it legal, signs can be torn down, and wheeling on questionable land is just more area that could get closed to us, and add ammunition to the fight of people trying to close even more to us.

got it

Hey Skeeter, I think I have a copy of the permission form for land use, but to make it easier for everyone, do you think we could get the file posted in the members section as a sticky in case anyone needs it quickly?

Just a thought.

If people want to still go Sunday, I'm thinking of ditching my forced boss' daughters party so i can go anytime.

The Raider Look alike is eager?
90Amigo
Um......the raider is a rebadged Montero to keep facts straight.

And besides a leaky heatercore hose its ready to go.
redwrangler
I would still like to go, although this would be my first "snow" run
zfinger
Depending on how much snow we get I'm still up for it. Any more then, say, 5" of snow and I think I'll have to cancel. I dont know if any of you have a winch, but I dont, and dont feel like being stuck in the woods too long in below freezing weather. Its an easy trail for the most part, and their's certainly strength in numbers, so the more people the more risk I'm willing to take as far as getting stuck. All mud and water will obviously be frozen, so the ruts, and the pitch are all we have to fight.

I have shovels, and straps, and a small come-along, but if anyone has a highlift it would be handy.

So I guess I'll start a list, add your name if your 100% (weather permiting)

So thats the excuse you'll give your boss?
zfinger
So, were meeting at the Poland Mobile at the intersection of rt 26 and rt 11. It's right across from Egcettera. 11am, be there. If for some reason they dont want a lot full of trucks and theres a good turnout, we can overflow to Poland Regional High School right across the street kinda. Any question give me call, I'll be out late tonight. 754-2611
redwrangler
Well, getting ready to go out drinking/eating. I should make it so we will see ya there
90Amigo
I'll post up in the morning on whether or not I'm still coming, but if we are really getting a lot of snow, then I'm going to bail out.

Nick
Humphrey
Currently forecasting 1-3
zfinger
Yup, 11am Poland Mobile. I'm gonna go get the Jeep loaded up right now. 754-2611
90Amigo
Well I have appeared to over sleep so I guess I'll have to wait for the next one.

Have fun guys.

Nick
Bostonyj7
was thinking about coming up from Ma.
I just got done pushing 9" snow from the driveway and the neighabors as well. Maybe next time

C-
zfinger
Well we had a big turnout...3 of us. But its alright, I had a really good time and hit up some new trails. Pushed my XJ a bit harder then I expected, and all I broke was the plug for my trailer. I had a good time for sure. Quote of the day came from my friend Jesse, "If I knew we would be walking so much I wouldn't have worn heels". Women, what do they think? Well here are a few pics for you, nothing amazing, it was too cold to get out and snap action shots.

Looks like fun, wish I hadn't over slept
Humphrey
Two Busted Body mounts
One Cracked Door Pillar
One bent Floor support
One torn CPU Pigtail

Hearing Zack go "Dude the floor just moved" Priceless...

...For everything else theres a whole lot of mastercard.

Definately needed pics of that one last hill....
zfinger
Seriously, I'm gullable now, but I dont think the floor should have 4-6 inches of travel under my feet. But hey, not once did a strap come out all day.
