White Mountain National Forest Plan Revision

We are pleased to announce the release of the White Mountain National
Forest Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and Proposed Forest Plan
(Plan). A public meeting to announce the preferred alternative will be held
on September 18, 2004, at Boyd Hall, Plymouth State University, Plymouth,
New Hampshire, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The DEIS, Plan, and supporting
documents will be mailed to the public on September 10 and will be posted
on the White Mountain National Forest website September 13
(www.fs.fed.us/r9/white).

The objective of this meeting is to explain the preferred alternative and
how to most effectively comment on the DEIS and Plan. As you will have just
received the planning documents, we are not expecting to receive
substantive comments at this meeting. Rather, a series of open houses will
take place at various locations in October and November. Plan revision team
members will be available at the meetings to answer your questions about
the DEIS and Forest Plan. Written comments can be submitted at these
meetings or throughout the comment period.

The official comment period for the revised Forest Plan is September 17
through December 16, 2004. All comments sent to the Forest by surface mail
and email must be postmarked by December 16, 2004. Mail your electronic
comments to wmnfplan@fs.fed.us. Other comments may be mailed to Forest
Planner, WMNF, 719 N. Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.

Many of you have provided us with valuable input throughout the Forest Plan
revision process. It is important that we continue to work closely together
as we develop a long-term plan for the Forest. We look forward to working
with you during this next phase of revision.

If you would like more information about this meeting, please call Colleen
Mainville at 603-528-8796.

kind of irksome that the meetings are in the middle of the day like that. dry.gif although it doesn't sound like this meeting will be centered around public comments.

I believe that, like it says, the reprt is published. It's just the comment period now. The meetings for actual input were maybe 2 years ago or close to it.
